Walking By Faith Because of the Promise

Genesis 15:6 And Abraham believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.

Read Genesis 12:1-9, Genesis 15:1-6, Genesis 22:1-18

As men we have a desire for a blueprint of life. A clear plan. We don’t always read the instructions but we still want Steps 1 through 10. Something we can measure and control. But when God called Abraham, He gave him none of that. God gave the command: “Go…to the land I will show you” Genesis 12:1 There was no timeline. There was no map. Instead God gave a promise.

For a man, that can be very hard. We are wired to provide, protect, and to have real answers. Can you imagine loading up your wife and family, leaving behind your home, saying goodbye to extended family, walking away from your job, turning away from your inheritance, essentially having no fallback plan  — This is what Abraham did, not because he understood everything, but because he trusted the One who did.

Abraham’s journey speaks to every man standing at a crossroads: the decision to move forward without certainty. To lead your family in a new direction, to launch a business, or to go on the mission trip God’s placed on your heart, etc. You usually won’t get the whole picture, but if the Holy Spirit has impressed upon you and your family to “go,” you do get a promise. GOD WILL GO WITH YOU!

Abraham’s story reminds us that faith, which is belief in your heart, is also movement of your body. James later confirms this in the new testament when he says “Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.” James 2:26 Through waiting, wandering, and even moments of doubt, Abraham continued to believe in God, even when the promise seemed impossible. He trusted when the timeline didn’t make sense. And when tested on Mount Moriah, he obeyed with a heart that surrendered completely. Abraham’s life shows us that faith is not the absence of questions or knowing the future with absolute certainty; it’s choosing to trust God and acting accordingly.

Throughout the rest of the week, I challenge you to reflect on these three sentences and speak them over your life daily.

Today, I commit to trusting God in uncertainty. I say “Yes” to His calling, even when I don’t have all the details. Like Abraham, I believe God is faithful to finish what He starts!

Prayer: Lord, we thank you for Abraham’s faith and obedience. We ask father, that you would strengthen our trust when the path ahead is unclear. Help us to believe your promises even when we can’t see the outcome. Teach us to walk by faith like Abraham. Amen.
